Personal Profile
My name is Monika Jones and I'm an artist based in Dorset, the United Kingdom. Originally from Poland, as a little girl I grew up living in Neo-Renaissance villa designed and built by Józef Boretti in 1862.
Since my early years I was surrounded by beautiful architecture, antique furniture, interiors and art. This is when my love for art and architecture was born. Later on in life, I decided to pursue this passion further and become an architect. I trained in Warsaw and studied architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology. From this I had developed a deep well of technical skills, yet I spent my days painting the visions of others – not my own.
A while ago, a friend of mine asked me what I wanted to do with my life. I said I wanted to paint - to be an artist. But then I detailed all the reasons that would make my dream impossible. She listened to all my excuses and then said: “you don’t choose the life of an artist – it chooses you, so if you want to paint – do it!”.
Several years ago I relocated to the South West of England and love my life here by the sea; this is when my artistic journey really began.
The large majority of my art consists of architectural detail drawings and watercolour painting. However I also paint using acrylic medium on canvas
It is my ambition as an artist to show this world with a more colorful perspective. Our beautiful world has always been my inspiration; the world created by nature as well as the one designed and created by us humans. However, my passion for architecture has become the sole drive of everything that I create.
I am fascinated by the power of art and how everyday things can gain beauty simply because we’ve experienced them through someone else’s eyes. That is the magic behind the paint brush.
I’m so grateful to you all for spending some time with me and my work. Thank you so much!
